Antique Delft Blue Hand Painted Tile Depicting Scene with Houses and Ships

This beautiful find is an Antique hand painted Delft blue tile.
As the back is not signed or stamped, it may have once decorated the walls of a wealthy home and later been removed during renovations.
It has a similar style to the Manganese sepia tiles but then with this beautiful Delft blue made by painting the white earthenware with a mix of cobalt oxide and water. Once the tile reaches 1200 degrees Celcius, something magical happens: the Cobalt turns from black to this astonishing and unique blue colour. The tiles are covered with a tin glaze that protects them from the wear of time and keeps this beautiful colour vibrant.
The tile is in beautiful Antique condition with no major damages. The crazing of the glaze adds to the antique charm. See our photos.
